A Bit About Me

After navigating my first years of adult life as a professional musician, I entered the world of therapy, initially through Music Therapy and then through Family and Systemic Psychotherapy. I completed my Family and Systemic Psychotherapy Training in the Tavistock Centre, a world-renowned centre for the treatment of children and adults with emotional difficulties. Along with my identity as a psychotherapist, I am a father, a partner, a friend, an immigrant, a musician, bringing my perspectives and ideas to our work together.

I have experience in working across the life span with children and adults with moderate to severe mental health difficulties, including co morbid difficulties such as neurodevelopmental disorders, learning disabilities and eating disorders. I am experienced in working with people from a variety of social, cultural and religious backgrounds, creating a safe space to think about your experiences.

During our work, we will actively consider the impact of wider challenges within society which may have contributed towards the development of your difficulties. We can be curious together about how multiple aspects of lived experience such as your age, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender, religion, marital or civil partnership status may be affecting the way that you perceive the world around you and the way that you may be perceived by others.

A big part of my professional identity is that of an educator/lecturer. As a self proclaimed life long learner I have been involved in teaching Psychology and Psychotherapy trainees. I currently coordinate the delivery and development of the Family Therapy teaching at the University of Essex on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I have previously taught in the Post Graduate Certificate in Family Therapy and Systemic Practice, run by Anglia Ruskin University.

When you contact me initially I will walk you through some of the options and if we decide to work together I will meet you (or you and your family/significant people in your life) ‘where you are’. We may decide to focus on getting a better understanding of the ways that your early experiences have shaped you. We may focus purely on the present and your goals for the future. I offer both short, medium and long term therapeutic support.
